THE PROBLEMS WITH IMPORTING DOGS:
On this page we hope to help and possibly advise people in what to look for and do in importing dogs from other countries. This may help people from making the same stupid textbook errors that we and others did,to stop some people from trusting all people, even people considered to be friends,to make sure that you are in possession of all relevant information prior to purchase-including all health and DNA certificates, allowing you to make a fully informed choice prior to booking and/or paying for a puppy or dog.
On the dog's individual pages we make no apology for the sometimes graphic videos and full health information and DNA information that some breeders would prefer remained undisclosed. On this page we have collated information from owners worldwide,it does not make good reading and will give people pause for thought or at the very least will make people more aware of what to check and ask for before parting with your hard earned cash when bringing in an imported dog.
Also on this page though are some success stories in importing, some very much loved dogs, some that are still part of our life in some way, some that formed part of the very foundation of our kennels.

PROBLEMS WITH IMPORTED DOGS OWNED BY OTHER PEOPLE WORLDWIDE:
No names are mentioned here but if you would like details I can put you in touch with the owners affected, the only breeders mentioned by us are the ones we have personal experience of importing dogs from, and they have their own pages to explain what their health issues were. Sadly we are not the first and most certainly won't be the last people to encounter problems with imported dogs.Below we list some of the things that have gone wrong and we then list what to ask for, insist upon and check for before importing a dog.
Most important is to check that the parents are who they say the parents are, unfortunately many people have imported a dog only to find out that the sire is not the sire stated,in fact sometimes the 'reputable' breeder doesn't even know who the sire is!!Some owners are now in the situation where the breeder has been suspended from their organisation, the dog is 2 years old and no DNA test has been completed as the breeder is no longer in good standing with either the organisation or the testing company Unistel due to monies owed. This leaves the owner not only out of pocket but missing using a potential stud dog on their in season females,so the owner loses out in all ways as the dog can no longer be shipped.
Some dogs are being incorrectly and fraudulently shipped from South Africa with no import paperwork stating that the dog is a Boerboel. Dogs of various colours, all would be a DQ under appraisal by SA Studbook, are being exported as something other than Boerboels and then magically they are being registered as Boerboels with other organisations, this is completely fraudulent but it is happening and this fraud is being committed by very well known breeders.
One poor owner has imported many dogs and each dog has arrived with it's own set of problems, problems that should have been seen by the breeder. A thing you have to remember is that some breeders only have 'staff' and the actual breeder takes no part in the day to day organising of the dogs,be it feeding, exercising etc,all that they may do is to state at the start of a day which two dogs are to be mated together, matings are left unsupervised and this shows when the DNA is done and the parents are not who the breeder says that they are.Similarly when a dog is ill the staff for the main part are uneducated in what to look for, what to tell the breeder about and dogs are carrying huge problems and being exported with these problems only for the new, unsuspecting owner to have a very sick dog arrive and be euthanised after a vet visit or much more money spent on vet treatment. This owner has had dogs arrive with growth issues, elbow dysplasia, kidney function and heart problems-all of these problems should have been seen and acknowledged by the breeder before shipping-and the crux of this whole thing, the breeders then refuse to compensate,to refund or to replace-something that we ourselves have also experienced to our cost.
